Writer's picture: Michael FoucaultMichael Foucault

Summer is here, the grills have been fired up the boats have been out and the first sunburns are already healing.

It’s time to consider the watch we want to survive the rest of summer with. Now most people when they think of summer watches think of dive watches, and rightfully so. But here are 5 summer watches under $1,000 that aren’t dive watches.

Zodiac Olympos

What better place to look for a summer watch than the brand that brings us some of the most colorful wrist candy available today? While zodiac has countless color

Options in their dive watches, they also have a beautiful field watch available. The Olympos is a vintage re-release of a watch that Zodiac produced in 1961. It has a beautiful 37mm manta ray case, Stp automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and 50m water resistance it will get you through your summer bbq and graduation party with ease.  With four colorways including the stunning ocean blue variant, it will get you through summer in style. At an MSRP of $895, it doesn’t have to break the bank either.

Bulova Lunar Pilot

The lunar pilot is not a watch that’s new to collectors. But the new release of the smaller version is. It offers everything we loved about the old one, the same history and hood looks. But Now with a 43.5mm case size and a new blue and white colorway, this new lunar pilot may be the freshest thing at the farmers market. With an MSRP of $895, it might be cheaper than a bushel of non-GMO organic locally sourced heirloom vegetables.

YEMA FLYGRAF FRENCH AIR & SPACE FORCE UTC BLUE

Yabba dabba Yema! This stunning piece is an excellent watch for summer. a military spec watch with a 41.5mm case and 100m water resistance this watch is ready for your next summer adventure. It comes with A seiko mecha quartz movement and hands that look like cockpit instruments on top of a bright blue dial. The rotating UTC bezel offers the ability to track a second-time zone. Beautiful blue for summer, gmt watch, and a chrono quartz. All that and it comes in at $399. This is a no-brainer for summer travel plans.

Nodus sector pilot phantom

A modern interpretation of a pilot watch. 39mm case day date complication and a countdown bezel make this offering from Nodus an excellent summer choice. 100m water resistance lets you jump in the pool to cool down without having to worry about it. The Nodus offers handsome good looks in spades and is a watch that transitions from work to weekend well. The bracelet dresses it up but the 20mm lug width lets things play on some fun and funky natos for summer. Get it with the steel bezel for $475 and you’re ready to go this summer.

Hamilton khaki field auto

A very versatile watch and one that I love. I’ve already written about it somewhere on this lil blog. 42mm decent water resistance. This watch will get you through summer. And for me, it has, durable, easy to read, looks good, and takes a variety of straps with its 22mm lug width. I’ve taken it on vacations, done hard work, manned the grill, and more and this watch just works, the definition of a tool watch. And at just under $600 it’s not a bad choice this summer.

There are a bunch of options available if you're looking for something other than a dive watch this summer. these are just a small sampling of things that stood out to me and would be versatile for all that summer throws at you and would be worth having in a collection.
